Government video FAQs

How much does government video production cost?

It depends on crew size, locations and how many cuts you need. A single PSA with social cutdowns costs less than a multi-spot campaign or a training series. After a short scoping call we send a detailed, itemized estimate that fits a purchase order, before anything is booked.

What is a PSA video?

A PSA, or public service announcement, is a short video that informs the public about a law, a health risk or a program, rather than selling a product. Agencies run PSAs on TV, YouTube and social media. Our Selective Service spots, for example, remind young men that registering is the law.

How long should a PSA be?

Most TV PSAs run 15, 30 or 60 seconds, the lengths stations accept for public service airtime. For YouTube and social we usually cut 6- to 15-second versions from the same shoot, and online campaigns can run longer: our FDA trailer is 70 seconds.

Do you work with agencies directly or through a prime contractor?

Both. We contract directly with agencies, and we also crew and produce for the communications firms that hold government contracts. Dan Byrnes of Reingold, for example, hired us to shoot a government PSA.

Are your videos Section 508 compliant?

Yes. Every film ships with accurate closed captions and a transcript, and we add audio description when your agency needs it, so the video meets Section 508 accessibility requirements. We can also deliver Spanish-language versions and subtitles.

Do you film in Washington, DC, Virginia and Maryland?

Yes. Our Washington, DC crew films at agency headquarters, on the Hill and across Northern Virginia and Maryland. We also have a crew in Los Angeles and travel to field sites nationwide.

How long does a government video take?

Most government videos take four to six weeks from the first call to final delivery: about three weeks to script and clear the plan with your agency, one or two shoot days, then one to two weeks to edit, caption and deliver. We can build the schedule around a fiscal-year or launch deadline.

Can you film on federal property or in secure buildings?

Yes, with your agency’s approval. We send crew names and an equipment list ahead of time for badging and security screening, follow your escort and photography rules on site, and keep restricted areas, screens and documents out of frame.
