Washington, DC video production FAQs

Something else on your mind?

Call 213-315-6197

How much does video production cost in Washington, DC?

It depends on crew size, shoot days, locations and how many cuts you need. After a short call we send a detailed estimate before anything is booked.

How much should a 3-minute video cost?

Length matters less than you'd think. The cost comes from the crew, shoot days, locations and editing, so a three-minute interview film shot in one day can cost less than a 30-second spot with a cast and several locations. Tell us what the video needs to do and we'll send a detailed estimate.

Do you need a permit to film in Washington, DC?

Yes, for any filming that isn't personal or breaking news. The DC film office (OCTFME) permits city streets and public space, usually within a few days, longer if the shoot needs parking or police support. Federal property, including the National Mall and the U.S. Capitol grounds, is permitted separately. We work out which permits your locations need while we plan the shoot.

Can you film on the National Mall?

Yes, with a permit from the National Park Service. Applications go in at least four days ahead, with a $90 processing cost and a daily location fee that depends on crew size. Some spots are off limits to filming, such as the Lincoln Memorial above the white marble steps and the Washington Monument inside the circle of flags.

Can you fly a drone for filming in DC?

Only with federal approval. The airspace over Washington, DC is the most restricted in the country, so drone filming needs a waiver from the FAA and TSA, and the DC film office issues a support letter that goes with the application. When a shot needs height, we plan around that approval from the start.

Do you work with federal agencies?

Yes. We've made a vaping prevention trailer for the FDA, three national TV spots for the Selective Service System and a film for the Library of Congress's National Library Service.

Do you film conferences and events in the DC area?

Yes. We film talks, panels and highlights on several cameras, including the TEDxTysons talks in Tysons, Virginia.

Which parts of the DC area do you cover?

All of the DC region: Capitol Hill, Downtown DC, Georgetown and Navy Yard, plus Arlington, Alexandria, Tysons, Reston and Fairfax in Virginia and Bethesda, Silver Spring and Rockville in Maryland.

How long does a video take from first call to delivery?

Most projects take two to six weeks: about a week to scope, one to two weeks for the script, a shoot day or two, then a week of edit and delivery. Rush schedules are possible when locations and talent are ready.

Are you based in Washington, DC?

Honey Video is based in Los Angeles, and we provide full-service video production in Washington, DC and nationwide. Our team travels for projects and works with trusted local crews, so your DC shoot gets the same care as one in LA.

What kinds of video do you make?

Corporate films, commercials, events, training, testimonials, executive interviews, product videos and government campaigns. We also design and build video podcast studios.

Bring us the shoot.

Tell us what you're making, where in the DC area and by when. We'll reply with a plan and a clear estimate.
